Authorities say a wildfire broke out near the National Center for Atmospheric Research in southwestern Boulder on Saturday afternoon, triggering evacuation orders and pre-evacuation notices for Eldorado Springs.
Initially, Boulder police stated that roughly 1,200 residents had been told to evacuate due to the NCAR fire.
However, a short time later, authorities released a map depicting practically the entire south Boulder area as being evacuated. According to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management, the evacuation area is now "from NCAR to Baseline Road, east to U.S. 36, back down to Broadway, and straight west to NCAR again."
The Eldorado area switched from a pre-evacuation order to an evacuation order just before 5 p.m. The evacuation zone is along Colorado 93 from the Greenbelt Plateau east to Greenbriar and Cherryvale, north of Eldorado Springs and Eldorado Canyon State Park, and south of Eldorado Springs and Eldorado Canyon State Park.
According to Dionne Waugh, a police spokesperson, the fire has scorched around 60 acres and there is no way to put it out. There has been no structural property damage reported, and no one has gone missing. The cause of the fire is being looked into.
Superior's staff had been in communication with a Boulder County sheriff's sergeant, who reported the fire is around 20 acres in size and moving south/southeast toward Eldorado Springs in southwestern Boulder County, according to the alert.
According to emergency officials, pre-evacuation orders have been issued for the Eldorado Springs area west of Colorado 93, north of Eldorado Canyon State Park, east side of Walker Ranch Open Space, and south of Greenbriar Boulevard.
According to authorities, the fire is burning in an open space area near NCAR on Boulder's southwest side. The Boulder Fire Department is battling the blaze.
According to authorities, emergency operations have been launched, and wireless emergency notifications have been sent to all cell phones within a quarter-mile radius of NCAR.
