Memphis, Penny Hardaway Facing Major Allegations Of Failing To Follow NCAA Rules

According to various sources on Saturday, Memphis men's basketball faces many Level I and II infractions as a result of the NCAA's investigation into the program.

The allegations were laid out in a revised Notice of Allegations that Memphis received from the NCAA's Independent Accountability Resolution Process in July 2021. According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Memphis responded to an open records request.

According to The Commercial Appeal, the seven alleged infractions occurred between May 2019 and February 2021. According to sources, at least four of the infractions are Level I and two are Level II, and the NCAA claims they reflect a lack of institutional control and monitoring.

According to The Daily Memphian, Memphis coach Penny Hardaway was implicated in at least one Level I and two Level II transgressions. On Oct. 25, Memphis and Hardaway submitted replies to the modified NOA.

In March 2020, Memphis' case was forwarded to the IARP. Since the NCAA penalized James Wiseman for 12 games in the 2019-20 season for alleged money his family received while he was in high school and for appearing in three games while ineligible, the program has been scrutinized.

Hardaway is in his fourth season as the Tigers' head coach. Memphis is 85-43 in his four years as a head coach, and the Tigers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this month before losing to Gonzaga.
